From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the initial group of heroes who will separate from the central cast to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might look mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to proceed after a brutal initial meeting with the enemy group.
A former ally of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Secondly, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks retribution.
- The adventurer is familiar with the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
- Tyranny and The cleric, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their status as important members in the powerful family could help the team enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This means them few options but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Fans can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
